Meet the Millers
We just crossed our 1 year anniversary of moving into our new milling space up in Boulder on January 5th. We're bad with names....but originally we called it The Millsite, although we called the retail shop Moxie Feed & Seed and recently our team has come up with "The Flour Studio". I think that one is gonna stick.
We've assembled the raddest team of rock stars up there. We've got Joan who's leading the charge as Mill Boss who has helped to design pretty much every aspect of the mill from layout to artwork to bookkeeping. Joan was one of our very best bakers at Moxie for a long time and was eager to grow into a greater role with the milling. She even drew and designed our beautiful stamps. And she manages to keep an amazing little CSA bread bakery on the side in her free time! Check her out on Instagram @naponeebakeshop.
Then we've got Hillary. Hillary just brought the team some one piece flight suits from that her boyfriend used during his military service. Always fashionable, Hillary and Joan have pressed these onesies into service as their work suits. Patches are on the way, and I think they'll say The Flour Studio. Don't be jelly. We'll find some on Etsy and put them out for sale :) Hillary came onboard at Moxie at the beginning of the pandemic answering a help wanted ad for a bread baking position. Although she had no prior professional baking experience (but an avid home baker), her musical pedigree as a pianist, coupled with her previous career of being a piano technician coupled with her having hiked the Appalachian Trail made her a really fun addition. Hillary joined Joan recently in the mill and has allowed us to continue to grow and live out our mission with the extra help.
Then's there's Mikey Lightyear. Mikey is like the thread that stitches together our patchwork quilt of local agriculture and food. He's been working with just about every local farmer friend we have helping with a variety of components of getting the job done from farming, cooking, milling, website design, social media, and finding ways to bridge the gap from farm to market. Mikey and I are working to elevate this here update into more of a newsletter or blog in the coming months...
In other news...we are excited to bring in some amazing local organic oat milk called Oatis. These guys launched at the Boulder Farmer's Market last year and are on fire! Here's the owner Krista's words on her oat milk:
We started Oatis Organic Oatmilk to help save planet earth and build community. Living in beautiful Boulder, Colorado we experience everyday what mother nature has on offer...We embraced this challenge when we realized the popular oatmilks we were drinking by the glass and frothing for our coffee is bathed in toxic glyphosates - harmful to our bodies, harmful to the water we drink and harmful to the soil. And the packaging, ick. Terrible for the planet Tetra Pak. We knew there had to be a better way…Organic oats help nourish soil and naturally suppress weeds. They are considered a “nurse” crop helping the natural establishment of other organic perennial crops. When you drink Oatis Organic Oatmilk, you not only experience true yumminess, you can help heal the planet’s soil. We’ve dedicated years to formulating a delicious original oatmilk and chocolate oatmilk. Oatis Organic Oatmilk has a rich and creamy taste and our packaging is reusable glass bottles.
***We will have limited supplies starting tomorrow. Order online or in person at both locations.
