An Evening at The Opera

First off, we have pre-orders open for Hot Cross Buns. These little seasonal gems inspired by our pal Jim Williams from Back Door Bread in Vermont are like those little purple crocuses that pop up in early spring to remind us that we are turning the corner into warmer days ahead. Tender buttery rum drenched brioche like dough with candied oranges, lemon and cranberry folded in with some warming spices, and topped with a citrus glaze. Pre-order yours now through Sunday online Available at all locations by selecting "Order Online" and your preferred location.

This Friday night we are very pleased to announce our first ever Opera at Moxie Lyons featuring Megan Marino Mayes.

Be it on stage, screen, under a big tent, standard fare repertoire, forgotten gem or work in progress, Meg is genre-adventurous & driven by a deep-rooted need to communicate, mixed with pure moxie. She’s a true believer that a good song is a good song, regardless of its genre or origin. Established as a stylish musician, agile fioriturist and a fearless stage animal, she’s been praised by Opera News as “authoritative and carefree,” “a gifted actress with a strong, appealing voice, graced by a rich lower register,” and singing trouser roles with “swagger” and “vocal audacity.”

Her 2021-2022 engagements include returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Feodor in Boris Godunov, the Atlanta Opera as Sesto Pompeo in Giulio Cesare and the Santa Fe Opera as Meg Page in Falstaff. The summer of 2022 marks the inaugural season of the Creede Musical Arts Collective Inc., a 501c3 organization which she co-founded with her husband. The organization’s mission is to enrich the community of Creede, Colorado and the San Luis Valley through all genres of Musical Arts; instrumental, vocal & physical alike. Future seasons include returns to the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and collaborating as a creator/producer on a handful of standard repertory and multi-genre projects. When not on the opera stage, she can be heard accompanying herself at the piano, and finding every opportunity to sing harmony & play her Hammond melodion with the Lyons bluegrass-fusion band (they affectionately call it "operagrass") the Midnight Cricket Club. The group is composed of KC Groves, Jason Hicks & Meg's husband, operatic baritone, Michael Mayes. The group played the nights away, under the cottonwood tree in Mike & Meg's front yard on Park Street to the sound of the crickets, during the late summer months of pandemic summer of 2020 (just before Mike & Meg relocated with their dogs Buster & Peak, to be with their extended family in Columbia, SC). “Meg first came to Boulder County in 2005 to study at the College of Music at the University of Colorado, and subsequently earned a Master of Music in Voice, moved to Lyons in 2015, and then never left, except to hit the road singing all over the world… and just can’t stay away…”

Our very special night at The Opera comes with Italian wood fired pizza farm fresh veg and meat from Cure Organic Farm, Aspen Moon Farm and Jacob Springs Farm. Tickets are $50 per person and seating is limited. Meg will perform an hour of classic opera followed by some folk music and ending in a classic Moxie jam-o-lama. 5-7pm seated opera, 7pm- whenever free for all jam!
