We Knead YOU, We are Hiring
We've been working hard to get our new Lyons shop open for the summer. This week we are painting the last few walls, screwing in the last few screws and connecting our brand new espresso machine. We are getting close.
If you are interested in joining the Lyons team, we will be looking to fill various positions including baristas, sandwich cooks and more. We also are looking for a few good folks to round out our Louisville and Boulder spots. Send resumes to laura@moxiebreadco.com.
What qualities are we looking for in you? Dynamic, team player, hustle, stamina, kind and positive, can work in a whacky and ever changing environment, attention to detail, love for food, love of people, tolerance for lots of Billy Strings on the stereo.
Looking for an awesome engaging camp for your kids this summer? Louisville locals Allison and Luke Johanson finally birthed their dream project and you are in it! It is called Sloyd Experience.
Sloyd (slöjd) was an educational method developed in the nordic countries during the mid-1800s. It employed handicrafts, primarily woodworking with hand tools, as a means in which to instill desirable character traits in their youth during their formative years. Building character in children was, in fact, the sole aim of sloyd. Many aspects of sloyd are still compulsory in the educational systems of the nordic region to this day.
Sloyd gained great popularity, and was soon spread across the globe by the early 1900s - to include the United States. However, the Russian method, which focused on developing trade skills with the ultimate purpose of building the country’s infrastructure and advancing the economy, eventually won out. Subsequently, sloyd disappeared from the classrooms.
Sloyd Experience is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that was incorporated in the spring of 2019 by Luke and Allison Johanson of Louisville, Colorado. Sloyd Experience aims to use the very natural and human activity of “working with your hands” to develop educational completeness of the mind and body of children, and to overcome current gaps in our educational system. Sloyd is much more than carpentry for kids - the foundational philosophy behind sloyd is paramount.
The mission of Sloyd Experience is “to strengthen children’s character through woodworking, where our sole aim is to foster self-reliance, nurture concentration, coach perseverance, encourage neatness, and instill an appreciation for labor – all of which will prepare them for their future and bring great benefit to our communities.”
We have a vision of reversing the overprotection tactics that are stealing opportunities to experience risk, responsibility, and failure away from children during their formative years. We aim to create self-reliant children, who are resilient and able to cope when confronted with real problems.
We have a vision where our children learn, through intentional instruction and coaching, how to overcome their struggles with concentration and attention. Furthermore, that we are able to curb our cultural addiction to convenience and instant gratification, and rather instill the value of delayed gratification - equipping children with the perseverance and grit required to accomplish long, difficult tasks.
We have a vision of bridging the gap between the social classes in the United States by instilling a love and respect for labor in our youth. We believe that exposing children to an appropriate degree of manual labor will lead to better empathy and understanding of all social classes, no matter what profession the children go on to pursue.
