Bakesale for Racial Justice January 23 + 24
With the recent storming of the White House, I am reminded just how much work lay ahead for racial justice in our country. Had that been black protestors they would have all been shot dead, period.
The Colorado Grain Chain is hosting their quarterly Bakesale For Racial Justice #grainchainforchange. This Bakesale raised almost $10K for local BIPOC partners such as BLM 5280 and Frontline Farming last year while raising awareness about racial and social justice.
It's really easy to participate. Either select a baked good at your establishment if you have an establishment to promote for this fundraiser, and get the word out to your customers via social media and your other marketing outlets. Let your customers know that you are fed up with racism in your country. Then donate the proceeds to the Colorado Grain Chain who will donate them to the local BIPOC organization.
If you are a home baker (I see y'all out there, just baking up a storm) you can do the same thing, just direct people towards your pickup location wether it is your house, your local farmers market or what have you.
We are donating free flour along with many areas mills, so if you want some flour just come and ask.
Here's a powerful song captured by Alan Lomax. Bessie Jones, John Davis, and Willis Proctor discuss Watch Night singings before performing "Yonder Come Day," a song sung during New Years Watch Night meetings. Recorded by Alan Lomax in April 1960 at St. Simons Island, Georgia.
